Things Change

19 December 201205:16PMmeta

If you're reading this, then you've probably noticed that some stuff has changed. And by stuff, I mean this blog, and its layout, and its appearance. And what this means, is that I've ditched Blogger.

And what have I ditched Blogger, that staple of the internet, that stable, Googley, fairly powerful platform, for? Why, what else but a flaky blog engine of my own design, written in Python and chewing gum and string.

There are a couple of reasons for this:

Firstly, I didn't like this blog being locked up in a pretty nasty Blogger specific format.

Secondly, I really wanted my blog to fit in with the rest of this site. Possibly shifting to something like Wordpress and writing my own theme would have given me more transferable skills and, in all likelihood, been easier- which brings me to...

Thirdly: You would not believe how bored I am.

It does have a couple of advantages though. Like, everything is text files, so I can paste it in anywhere. And miraculously, I managed to not break any links, or any tags. And, I have a lot of control over how both my content looks and how it's laid out, because of how the templates work.

So I guess it was a massive duplication of effort (seriously, how many blog platforms exist already?) and I'll almost certainly regret it at some point, but right now I'm feeling pretty good about it.

If you find any obvious horribly glaring bugs, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me. Maybe leave a comment on this post, even. Unless, of course, the bug is in the commenting system. Then you're pretty screwed.
